Choosing a Helmet
While style and price matter, safety and fit should come first. A full-face helmet offers the highest protection, covering more of your head and face and typically including a movable shield.
A three-quarter (open-face) helmet is another option, but it lacks face and chin protection. If you choose one, make sure to use a snap-on shield or impact-rated goggles. Regular sunglasses or prescription glasses are not enough and can shift or fall off.
“Shorty” half helmets offer the least protection and may come off during impact. These, along with novelty helmets with thin or no liners, are not recommended.
Today’s helmets are stronger, lighter, and more comfortable than ever, with styles to match any bike. Always look for DOT and/or Snell certification, ensuring the helmet meets established safety standards.
